Hosted VoIP Gains Ground

About a year ago, MSPmentor covered the debate between MSPs opting to pursue hosted VoIP services and those questioning whether such services offered the price/performance edge MSPs needed. A new report from Infonetics Research doesn’t necessarily settle the question of VoIP timing, but does depict a fast-growing hosted VoIP market. The Infonetics study says hosted PBX and unified communications service revenue climbed 33 percent in 2011, while the number of seats rose 44 percent. The uptick likely stems, at least in part, from the smallish base of hosted VoIP business customers.

LabTech Distributes RMM Software In EMEA, Asia-Pacific

LabTech Software, the remote monitoring and management (RMM) software provider, has partnered with three distributors to promote its managed services software in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, Africa) and the Asia-Pacific market. The distribution partners are Arete Focus, Innosoft and Dekkers Intermediar. LabTech, like many of its RMM rivals, is pushing hard beyond the North American MSP market.

SMB Customers Represent Untapped Enterprise Mobility Market

Enterprise mobility management services — which include services to manage mobile apps, devices, content, network services, expenses, policy and security — will grow to $11 billion worldwide by 2016, according to recent estimates from ABI Research. And in promising news for MSPs who serve an SMB clientele, ABI says small and medium-sized businesses represent an “untapped” segment of the enterprise mobility market. And no doubt, MSPs can weave mobile device management (MDM) into this conversation.

It looks like the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard could use an awareness campaign. Could the apparent gap in PCI understanding create an opening for MSPs dealing with retailers or working in the security field?

Microsoft Lync: Gaining Momentum with Partners, Customers?

Anecdotal evidence suggests Microsoft Lync — the unified communications platform — continues to gain momentum. For instance, both Volkswagen Group of America and LA Fitness have rolled out Lync, the software giant says. Plus, the Microsoft Pinpoint partner locator tool now lists at least 100 Lync channel partners across the U.S. My bigger question: Can MSPs somehow generate recurring revenues from Lync?
