Alert Logic, the Security-as-a-Service provider for cloud environments, has acquired Armorlogic, a web application security solutions provider. According to Alert Logic, the deal means that all of its business customers will now have a full managed security solution for Web-facing applications.
Life seems good for Alert Logic, the which develops a SaaS-based security service for MSPs. For its fiscal year 2011, revenues rose 44 percent to $21.4 million, and annualized recurring revenues have hit $25 million. The figures sound promising — though MSPmentor does not have access to Alert Logic’s net income information.
Managed services executives continue to make career moves. Two examples: Managed services veteran Greg Carver has joined VirtuOz as senior VP of global services. Also, Chris Noell has joined Alert Logic as VP of product management.
An increasing awareness of IT security issues displayed by SMBs during 2011 could present an opportunity for MSPs in 2012. The “SMB Market Landscape Report 2011,” a recent survey of 1,000 US- and UK-based SMBs released by internet security software provider AVG, indicates that traditional IT vulnerabilities are still causing SMBs the most concern, but there is a slow awakening to threats related to emerging technologies, especially among larger SMBs.
Managed services can be difficult to define and sell, especially as cloud computing blurs the picture. But IBM is seeking simplicity as it begins to more aggressively embrace mid-market MSPs. Indeed, IBM is starting to see the managed services market in three clearly defined segments.
